No ward congress, members insist
National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) George Moghalu, has described the violence that trailed the stakeholders meeting in Awka, the Anambra State capital at the weekend as an embarrassing and disturbing development.

Speaking to journalists on the development at his Uraugu, Nnewi residence, yesterday, Moghalu said the outcome of the party meeting, which was not in line with the APC’s way of doing things, was saddening. His words: “I expect decorum to prevail during the stakeholders meeting, which was billed for Finotel Awka, the meeting was actually called by the congress committee that came from Imo State to smoothen some rough edges.

“But as the committee members were being introduced, there was an issue over the identity of one man whose name was not on the list of those assigned to conduct the congress.“There may be issues but APC is known for doing things decently and things shouldn’t have degenerated to the abysmal level that I had to run for my dear life. APC is made up of human beings and even at family level, misunderstanding can occur”

Moghalu, who is also a member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and the running mate to Tony Nwoye during last year’s governorship election in Anambra State, however, said he expected the committee to do its homework, meet with stakeholders and come up with a template to conduct a free, fair and transparent primary in the state.

Also speaking, former APC Chairman, Contact and Mobilisation in Anambra, Dozie Ikedife, noted that the State Chairman of the party, Emeka Ibe had claimed at the stakeholders’ meeting that the congress had been successfully conducted in some parts of the state, a development that was corroborated by Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige. “What were the modalities used for conducting the congress, which the umpires arrived at in Anambra on Sunday? Those who argued that the congress had been conducted in Anambra should answer this and other relevant questions, but for now, there was no APC ward congress in Anambra State,” he insisted.
