Uche Nwosu, the chief of staff to Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, was not too long ago anointed as the successor to the outgoing governor of the state. Besides being the top political, personal aide to the governor, Nwosu is also the son-in-law to the governor. In this brief interview in Owerri, Nwosu responds to the challenges that have recently engulfed his political patron and father-in-law. He affirms that he would not be deterred from actualising his gubernatorial ambition in the state irrespective of the cloud that has engulfed Okorocha’s ascendancy in Imo State saying that the outcome of the Congresses of the Imo State All Progressives Congress, APC, will not impede him.

You have the full support of Governor Rochas Okorocha, to succeed him in 2019, but how true is the story that has gone viral which said you had renounced your gubernatorial ambition?

There is nothing that can be farther from the truth than such report that I have suspended my ambition.

It is those in the opposition that have suspended their governorship aspirations because of the fear of Ugwumba Uche Nwosu. They are afraid because they know that they don’t stand a chance against the will of God and the people.

Are you bothered by the outcome of the just concluded Imo APC congresses in the state?

I am not disturbed by the political intrigues and controversies that arose during the course of the contentious APC congresses in the state. My ambition is divine and cannot be truncated by any man.

Are you suspecting anybody behind this rumour that you have dropped your ambition?

Those behind the report of my purported withdrawal from the race are those who are already losing sleep over my growing acceptance among the Imo electorate.

And let me tell you this, no amount of cheap blackmail or sponsored falsehood in the media can distract me or derail God’s plan for Imolites through my mandate.

Don’t you think that your journey to becoming the next governor of Imo state appears to be shaky?

We are very focused on the goal, and we cannot be distracted. If you observe correctly, you will discover that we are not resting on our oars we are moving and taking our message to the nook and cranny of the state.

What do think about the APC members who appear to be on the other side and against your ambition?

The so-called Coalition Group are running around in hotels in Abuja looking for ways to subvert the will of the people, they are not on the ground, and none of them can win any election in Imo.

They said that they are genuine APC members and working to restore the party?

No, these are the same people who fought Governor Rochas Okorocha and even called him all sorts of uncomplimentary names; some even went as far as selling the falsehood that he was working with President Muhammadu Buhari to Islamise the Southeast.

When he was building the APC, these were the same people who were pretending to love the party. We know their plans and their sponsors but just like we defeated them in 2011 and 2015, we will also defeat them in 2019, and President Muhammadu Buhari will have a landslide victory in Imo and other Southeast states.

What is your message for your supporters?

I call on APC members to disregard the malicious rumour because what transpired during the botched APC Congresses in the state, has revealed the plans of the opposition parties to infiltrate the APC with the intention of introducing crisis that will mar the chances of the party during the 2019 election.
