Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, yesterday took over as the secretary of the convention committee of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of its convention slated for the 23 of this month.

The erstwhile scribe, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu of Imo State [Okigwe Senatorial Zone] penultimate Saturday officially announced his resignation as the Secretary National Convention Committee, saying the resignation was to afford him the opportunity to attend to some family matters.

Uwajimogu is one of the APC chieftains in Imo State that have been having running battle with the governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, over the recently conducted congresses.

Ndoma-Egba while taking over at a brief ceremony at the convention committee secretariat in Abuja however said that he can cope with any kind of pressure the appointment might bring adding that the former scribe had done the bulk of the work.

Ndoma-Egba said: “Let me start by thanking Senator Ben Uwajumogu for setting a very string framework and very clear footpaths to a very successful 2018 convention. You have done the bulk of the work, mine is just to continue and conclude the good work you have started.
“I don’t know what kind of pressure will be more than having more than 108 peers.

I managed 108 senators in the 7th senate as the majority leader and in the 6th senate, I was the deputy majority leader. I am used to operating under pressure and I can cope with any kind of pressure.”

On the issue of imposition of candidates, he said, “I have a list from the party and that is the one I am going to work with. How the list was compiled, I wouldn’t know but as long as it is the authentic list, that is what I’ll be using.”

On his part, Senator Uwajumogu said that he was not disappointed that the national leadership of the party appointed a South-south party member to take over from him instead of South East person as he requested even as he revealed that over 60 persons have so far bought forms.

“As at today, more than 60 people have bought forms for the vacant positions yet the sale of forms is still ongoing.

“I was not disappointed because Senator Egba is from the Eastern Region and I believe that he is most qualified and most positioned to succeed me as secretary of the convention. He has the competence to make the convention successful,” he said.
