Abia State Governor Alex Otti has commiserated with the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, following the killing of three soldiers by an unknown gunman who attacked a military checkpoint at Ekenobizi Umopara, a neighboring town between Abia and Imo State.

In a letter dated November 14 that he personally signed, Governor Otti, who also condoled with the General Officer Commanding (GOC) the 82 Division, the Commander of 14 Brigade Ohafia, and the Army Battalion in Umuahia on the incident, described the killing of the soldiers as unfortunate, barbaric, and dastardly.

Otti described the slain soldiers as gallant, adding that they remained committed to the security of lives and property in Abia but unfortunately paid the supreme price on duty.

The Abia Governor, who assured the Nigerian Army that those behind the killing would be arrested, said that those who attacked a military checkpoint at Obikabia Junction near Aba on May 30, 2024, in the State had been arrested.

“Let me assure you that the Abia State government will not rest until the perpetrators of this act are apprehended and dealt with accordingly,” he said.

Otti further stated that his administration is ready to join the Nigerian Army and other security agents in a thorough investigation to unmask those behind the Umopara attack.
